Welcome to Sweetwater, a new online journal curated for Halfmoon Lake residents. Here you will find information regarding the history of Halfmoon Lake as well as information we hope our readers will find informative and entertaining. Sweetwater is named in honor of Dean Finethy of South Shore Drive, a fixture in our community for 50 years. Dean's daily tours on his pontoon boat, aptly named "Sweetwater," were a familiar and comforting sight for many of us on the lake. Like regular clockwork, the chug of Sweetwater's engine passed by shore in early evening with Dean at the helm offering a friendly wave to those on-shore. This small gesture fostered a sense of community for residents of the lake. Likewise, this journal is a new endeavor to continue to connect all of us through the stories, history and events of the lake we call home.
